Discover the highlights of La Palma with Isla Bonita Tours
Explore the best of La Palma on a relaxing bus tour that takes you through the island’s most impressive landscapes on the west side, including the area shaped by the 2021 Cumbre Vieja–Tajogaite volcanic eruption. If you are visiting the island on a cruise ship and looking for an enjoyable full-day experience, this tour is a perfect choice.
We start by leaving the capital city, Santa Cruz de La Palma, and the harbour behind us.
Our route begins with a scenic drive along the mountain ridge road, “La Cumbre”, where we make our first stop at a viewpoint overlooking the Breñas valley and parts of Santa Cruz. On clear days, it is even possible to see neighbouring islands. This spot also offers a beautiful introduction to the island’s lush laurel forest.
We then cross the island through its iconic tunnels and arrive on the west side, where both vegetation and climate change dramatically. Here, pine forests, sunshine and warmer weather welcome us.
Our first major stop of the day is Tacande, an area where the road disappeared under the first lava flows of the Tajogaite volcano. Several houses were left just a few metres from the solidified lava, making this one of the most striking and essential places to visit on the island.
We continue by bus to the neighbourhood of La Laguna, where we begin crossing the lava fields on the road that connects La Laguna with Las Manchas — a stretch about 4.5 km wide. The scale and power of the lava flows are truly impressive.
Our journey then takes us to Tazacorte, a charming and colourful village where we stop for a coffee break or a quick bite.
Afterwards, we head towards Los Llanos de Aridane, driving through an area filled with banana plantations and crossing the lively town centre.
Our last stop is near another section of the lava flows, in the area where the Tahuya road disappeared beneath the volcanic material during the eruption.
We then begin our return to the east side, once again crossing the island through the tunnels. Before ending the tour, we enjoy one final stop at the Mirador de la Concepción, the best viewpoint to admire the beauty of Santa Cruz de La Palma from above.
VERY IMPORTANT:
Our recomendation for you is to bring for any tour good hiking or sport clothes and shoes with a good profile. It´s also a good idea to brring a cup. Good jacket.
