We embarked on a hike that wound its way through the majestic mountains of Puntallana, Cubo de La Galga, a hike in La Palma where nature whispered secrets and ancient mysteries waited to be unveiled.
The trail began amidst the emerald embrace of one of the island’s most splendid laurel forests. Towering laurel trees, their branches heavy with history, stretched towards the heavens. Enormous ferns, like prehistoric sentinels, guarded our path, their fronds swaying gently in the breeze. The air was thick with the sweet perfume of blossoming flowers, and the ground beneath our feet was soft, cushioned by a carpet of fallen colorfull leaves.
As we ascended, the forest seemed to come alive around us. Birds with their melodic tunes. We marveled at the unique microclimate, a humid haven that nurtured the growth of the grandest trees and the most delicate flora, a phenomenon found only in the Canary Islands.
Reaching the zenith of our ascent, we stood in awe at the Mirador Somada Alta, a breathtaking vantage point that bestowed upon us a panoramic view of the island’s northeast. The world below appeared miniature, a patchwork of vibrant greens and deep blues. A sense of triumph washed over us, mingling with the crisp mountain air.
With renewed vigor, we began our descent toward San Bartolo, a quaint oasis nestled amidst the mountains. Here, we took respite, our laughter mingling with the rustle of leaves and the distant murmur of a hidden stream. Lunch was a feast of flavors, the local food at the bar el Recuerdo was favulous.Â
The second leg of our adventure beckoned—a longer, more challenging hike through the awe-inspiring gorge of La Galga. Towering cliffs loomed on either side, their faces etched with the passage of time. We ventured deeper into the heart of nature’s masterpiece, passing banana plantations that stood as testament to the resilience of the island’s people.
Our destination drew nearer, the anticipation palpable in the air. And then, as the sun began its descent towards the horizon, we arrived at the grand finale: the viewpoint overlooking Nogales beach. The sight took our breath away—a pristine stretch of golden sand caressed by the azure waves of the Atlantic. The horizon stretched endlessly, merging the sea and sky into a seamless canvas of dreams.
With hearts full of gratitude and a newfound sense of wonder, we basked in the beauty of the moment, etching this small adventure into the annals of our cherished memories.
