Discover the highlights of La Palma with Isla Bonita Tours
Experience the essence of La Palma on a relaxing and enriching bus tour that leads you through the island’s most impressive western landscapes, including the extraordinary terrain shaped by the 2021 Cumbre Vieja–Tajogaite volcanic eruption. If you’re visiting La Palma on a cruise ship and looking for a memorable full-day adventure, this tour is a perfect match.
We leave behind the charming capital, Santa Cruz de La Palma, and the harbour as we head towards the mountain ridge known as La Cumbre. Our first stop is a scenic viewpoint offering sweeping views over the Breñas valley and parts of Santa Cruz. On clear days, you may even spot other islands rising from the horizon. This is also a wonderful place to appreciate the island’s lush laurel forest, a treasure of the Canary Islands.
Crossing the famous tunnels that divide the island in two, we arrive on the west side, where the landscape changes dramatically. The air becomes warmer, the skies open up, and fragrant pine forests appear around us.
Our first major stop is Tacande, one of the most moving and symbolic locations of the Tajogaite eruption. Here, the road vanished under the very first lava flows, and several houses remain just a few metres from the solidified lava. It is an unforgettable place that shows both the power of nature and the resilience of local communities.
We continue to La Laguna, where an impressive 4.5-kilometre stretch of road cuts through the immense lava fields on the way to Las Manchas. The scale of the lava flows is overwhelming — a natural monument that leaves no visitor indifferent.
A colourful oasis in this sea of black lava awaits at our next stop: Plaza de La Glorieta. Designed as a mosaic garden filled with local plants, it is the perfect spot to capture some of your best holiday photos.
Our journey then leads to Tazacorte, one of the most colourful villages on the island. Here you can enjoy a relaxing coffee break or a quick snack by the sea atmosphere.
Afterwards, we head to Los Llanos de Aridane, passing through vast banana plantations before crossing the lively town centre.
Our final visit is to another location deeply marked by the eruption — the area where the Tahuya road disappeared beneath the lava. Seeing the altered landscape up close helps you understand the true impact of the volcano.
We finish the tour by crossing the island once more through the tunnels and stopping at the Mirador de la Concepción, the finest viewpoint overlooking Santa Cruz de La Palma. It’s the perfect final moment to admire the capital from above before heading back.
VERY IMPORTANT:
Our recomendation for you is to bring for any tour good hiking or sport clothes and shoes with a good profile. It´s also a good idea to brring a cup. Good jacket.
