Roque de Los Muchachos, the highest point in La Palma
A real guided hike to the highest peak in La Palma, Roque de Los Muchachos. We will be hiking around the rim of one of the biggest erositon craters of the planet. Great views, amazing rock formations and telescopes from Observatory of Roque de Los Muchachos, one unique hiking day.
Before we start with our schelude hike on the edge of the Caldera de Taburiente we have a rather interesting road drive up the Pico de La Cruz. Driving first through Santa Cruz de La Palma towards Mirca and then, very quickly been surrounded by a dense vegetation only seen on this north east side of La Palma. We are talking ofcourse of the Laurel Forest.
This wide serpentine road, LP-4, is aproximately 36 km to the starting point of our hike and on the way we can also enjoy some beatifull views of Santa Cruz. It´s easy to drive and free of dangerous parts all the way to the top.
Once we hit our gold, Pico de La Cruz 2.351m, the second highest point in La Palma, it´s time to get ready to hike. Our guides will help you out getting ready and after taking one of our wooden hiking sticks you will be ready to go!
Before we get to the highest point of La Palma we have to drive up a typical La Palma country road.
Once at the top, this is a unique place where our hike goes all day along the edge of the crater, up and down and always looking into this amazing erosion crater and our National Park. We will be immersed in a sea of clouds and the telescopes are almost everywhere we look.
Our recomendation for you is to bring for any tour good hiking or sport clothes and shoes with a good profile. It´s also a good idea to bring sun protection and a cup. Good warm jacket in winter and something against the rain, just in case!.
Do not forget ALWAYS to bring for the hikes water and food, as much as you need.
We also offer to our clients our wooden hiking sticks and if you have forgotten your shoes, you can always hire one of our comfortable walking boots.
