Day Tour to Porís de Candelaria – A Hidden Treasure on La Palma’s Wild West Coast
Join us for an unforgettable day trip to one of La Palma’s most magical and dramatic spots: El Porís de Candelaria. Tucked away on the rugged western coastline, this hidden gem is without doubt one of the island’s most impressive natural wonders – and best enjoyed as part of this safe, guided minibus adventure.
Our journey begins in the morning, departing from Santa Cruz and Los Cancajos as we head west along the scenic Carretera de La Cumbre. Passing through a series of tunnels that cut across the island’s spine, we descend into the sunny Aridane Valley, stopping briefly in the colourful town centre of Tijarafe. Nestled between pine and almond trees – and surrounded by banana plantations – Tijarafe guards the secret of Porís de Candelaria. We’ll pause for coffee and, if you wish, a stroll through its charming historic quarter.
Then, the adventure deepens. We descend towards the coast on a narrow road with breathtaking views – a winding route that reveals the dramatic cliffs and endless Atlantic horizon. It’s a safe journey in the hands of our expert drivers, but it certainly feels like stepping into another world.
After leaving the minibus at the end of the track, we’ll walk the final ten minutes down a well-marked footpath towards the sea. There, nestled in a vast volcanic cave over 100 metres high, lies Porís de Candelaria – a tiny fishing enclave of whitewashed houses with blue-trimmed windows, clinging to the rock face. The cave opens to a natural harbour of calm, clear waters – perfect for a refreshing swim or simply soaking in the atmosphere. With cliffs rising nearly 250 metres above you, it feels like nature’s cathedral.
The smell of salt air, the echo of waves, and the surreal sight of this hidden village make for a truly unforgettable moment. This is La Palma off the beaten path – safe, guided, and utterly spectacular.
Before we return, we’ll stop at Mirador del Time, the island’s most stunning viewpoint over the Aridane Valley. Enjoy Kevin’s famous coffee as you take in the sweeping views of the valley and coastline far below.
Then it’s back to where we began – with unforgettable memories of La Palma’s secret coast.
VERY IMPORTANT:
Our recomendation for you is to bring for any tour good hiking or sport clothes and shoes with a good profile. It´s also a good idea to bring sun protection and a cup. Good warm jacket in winter and something against the rain, just in case!.
Do not forget ALWAYS to bring for the hikes water and food, as much as you need.
